Hoosier
Paranormal
Research
was fortunate enough to investigate this landmark
of Columbus. A franchise of a well established, national chain that has
survived the ages of many bad economies and a lot of competition.. A
place where families, workers and kids have come for years to enjoy the
time tested taste of old Italy and games. This pizza
establishment, of which we can only hint of its true identity, has
recently uncovered its encounters with ghostly apparitions.
Reports:
The
restaurant owners and workers have actually seen, on several occasions,
the dark and seemingly elusive apparition darting behind
walls
and corners. It has even appeared only partially from the
waist,
up on one occasion. It has been seen more than once by more
than
one person simultaneously.
Investigation:
The
team arrived at the establishment around 10:00 pm this night.
The
Weather: Temperature: Low 70's, Sky: Partly Cloudy,
Moon:
75% full and receding. Investigators present this night were;
Robert, Greg, Kenny, Kelly and two guests, Heather and Ricky.
After a brief tour and interview, we decided to set up 3
static
IR Nightshot video cameras. One, at the counter facing the hallway
towards the east door. The second in the kitchen hallway
facing
the party room door. And the third camera was in the dinning area next
to the front entrance facing camera one. Also used were 5 digital voice
recorders. Two of them were placed in the dinning area. (one in the
front and one on the salad bar). One was placed in the hallway near the
fountain machine. One was placed outside the building in the middle,
front window seal. The final one was a mobile unit carried by
various investigators throughout the night. We also used a
digital EMF meter and one documentary mini DV video camera.
We decided to split up into two teams of three investigating in 30
minute intervals. We started the voice recorders at 11:37 pm.
The
first team to investigate included Robert, Heather and Ricky. The
others stayed outside the building. We used 2-way radios to
communicate. The first team reported only seeing lights and
shadows on the wall from passing cars as they were trying to debunk
anything that might cause a shadow figure. No smells, noises or
sightings were reported. At 12:15 am, the remaining members came
in and we made several attempts, having Robert drive his van around the
parking lot at various locations, speeds, with and without his high
beams on, in an attempt to reproduce anything like a shadow
figure. After about 10 minutes of that, we decided
to split
into three groups of two thinking we might have better success with
fewer people in the building.
The first team to investigate was Greg and Kelly at 12:29 am.
The
others, again, waited outside the building. A couple of
minutes
after 1:00am, Greg says he heard what sounded like shoes shuffling
around in the front dinning area. Kelly heard the same noise but
described it as "Shhhh". At 1:07 am, the rest of the
group returned to investigate the noise.
The next team was Kenny and Ricky at 1:15 am. Making several
rounds
around
the inside, they tried provoking the spirits while having an EVP
session. At 1:25 am, Kenny did hear a light "whistle" while
in the upper
level
dinning area. (he describes the whistle as the same whistle the
mechanical parrot makes in the party room). However, the game with the
parrot in the party room was unplugged. Other than the falling
of
ice in the fountain machine, it was fairly quiet and uneventful.
At 1:43 am, the rest of the group came in from outside and we spent
some time just listening for any noises. At 2:07 am, we
continued
listening for noises and we made several attempts to communicate with
any spirits that might be there. Asking questions and sometimes
provoking. At 2:10 am, Heather said she heard water running
in
the bathroom. Kelly and Ricky also heard the noise.
It came
slowly, got louder then shut off and it didn't last very long. As if
someone were in the bathroom and turned on the faucet for a moment.
Greg went into the women's restroom then the men's.
According to Heather and Kelly, the sound clearly came from
the
women's restroom. Kenny was sitting in the upper level dinner
area and didn't hear the noise. This noise occurred more than once.
At 2:37 am, Kenny quietly walked to the restroom hallway to listen for
the water faucet coming on. At 2:42 am, he heard what sounded like
someone whispering or mumbling in the women's restroom. He
called
the others and Greg, Kelly and Robert heard the same thing.
We
weren't for sure if there was actually a spirit in the restroom
whispering or if the noise was caused by matrixing from the white noise
of the oven fan. Perhaps our imaginations were running a bit
wild. The noise went away after only a few minutes.
At 3:20 am, we decided to wrap up the investigation. It only
took
a few minutes to gather up our equipment and lock up. We have a total
of 29 hours of evidence to sort out.
Findings:
Unfortuneately, nothing out-of-the-ordinary was recorded on
our
voice recorders or video cameras other than the unexplained sound of
the water running from the video camera placed in the kitchen hallway.
After hearing this noise, which was only picked up by this
one
recording device, it was determined it had to come from
around
the area where that video camera was located. The men's
restroom
is adjacent to this area. We feel more research is needed and warrents
a follow-up investigation.
Investigation #2 (Case #43b)
Columbus, Indiana Pizza Restaurant, October 24th, 2009
Investigation
On this night, Hoosier Paranormal returns to this Columbus area
pizzeria for a second chance to capture anything paranormal. They
arrive at 10:00 pm with five members, three guests and equipment.
The three guests include Megan, Alex and Mickey of Indiana
University’s “Weekend” newspaper. Hoping to
capture something paranormal for their Halloween special edition,
HPR and the store manager was asked a plethora of questions during
HPR’s set up.
The five members of HPR included: Ricky, Greg, Robert, Shanon and
Kenny. Equipment used was three static nightshot video cameras,
one mini DV camera, digital cameras, six digital voice recorders and K2
EMF meter. The investigation officially began at 11:02 pm.
We split up into 2 teams. Team 1 consisted of Greg, Shanon,
and Alex. Team 2 was Robert, Ricky, Kenny and Mickey.
Time Line
At 11:16 pm, team 1 decided to begin their investigation in the
kitchen. At 11:19 pm, Greg heard what sounded like someone in one
of the restrooms. At 11:20 pm, something made a noise in the
kitchen. Greg resumed asking questions like, “Can you make
the lights move?”, referring to the lights on the K2 meter,
“Are you a man or a woman?” and “Can you move towards
the green light?”. At 11:23 pm, the K2 meter
had some activity. Unfortunately, the oven fan came on about
every 5 to 8 minutes making it nearly impossible to hear any activity
on the voice recorders especially in or near the kitchen area. At
11:38 pm, Shanon saw a shadow move across the wall from left to right
then again from right to left. He then claimed that the shadow
probably came from outside. At 11:58 pm, team 2 took over and
began their investigation in the back storage area where we conducted
an EVP session. Other than a leaky faucet dripping, the sound of
ice falling from the fountain machine and the oven fan, it was pretty
quiet. Along with our documentary crew, we decided to proceed to
the game room at 12:10 am. After spending a few minutes in there,
doing another EVP session, at 12:16 am, we went to the women’s
restroom where we listened for any noises. Temperature readings
in the restroom was slightly cooler at first but our higher body
temperatures soon would change that. Starting out at 71.0
degrees, the temperature worked its way up to 72. We spent only a
few minutes in there when we finally heard a noise that generated
outside the restroom. Finding nothing, at 12:24 am, we decided to
take a quiet break to give our equipment some time alone. We
joined the others outside for about 35 minutes. The IU
journalists also made a break for it and decided to leave at that
time. At 1:01 am, the group entered the building to resume their
investigation. Shanon, Kenny and documentist, Ricky, paired up
while Greg and Robert sat quietly in the upper dining room.
Starting in the “game room”, Shanon and Kenny
conducted an EVP session. After a few minutes in the game
room, we listened near the bathroom area for any noises then worked our
way through the kitchen and around to the back from the drive-thru side
of the building asking questions and listening for noises or music at
1:24 am. At 1:25:33 am, Shanon heard a light voice from the ice
machine area but nothing showed up on our voice recorders. At
1:27 am, Greg and Robert took over the investigation with Ricky as
video documentist while Shanon and Kenny sat quietly in the upper
dining area. Returning to the back part of the building near the
walk-in cooler, Robert and Greg conducted an EVP session beginning at
1:31 am. At 1:35:40 am, the store phone rang causing Robert to
asked, “Did you make the phone ring?” At 1:42 am, they move
around to the restroom hallway and conducted another EVP session.
They decided to sit in the same places they were on the first
investigation (Case #43) to see if they could hear the water coming on
again. Listening for about 10 minutes, at 2:00 am, the
investigation was called. Lights came on the tear down
began.
Findings
No abnormal EMF readings, video anomalies or EVPs were captured
on the night of this investigation. After reviewing our recorded
data and discussing our personal experiences while the investigation
was underway and from the testimonies of eyewitness accounts,
we have concluded that this establishment may have
some possible residual activity. More research of the property is
necessary to confirm this hypothesis.
