Case #45
Indianapolis, Indiana-  Hannah House Mansion
October 28th, 2009

HistoryHanna House Mansion, Indianapolis
This historic mansion was built in 1858 by Alexander Hannah.  At 37, he was a prominent figure in Indianapolis. Married to Elizabeth Hannah for 14 years after its construction, Alexander would add several additions to the house including a summer kitchen, smoke house, milk house and servants' quarters as a gift to Elizabeth.  After his death in 1895, the property was sold to a German immigrant, Roman Oehler in 1899.   The mansion remains in ownership of his descendants today. - See Who Were the Hannahs of Indiana?

The basement seems to be the focal of paranormal activity as it was the location where bodies of slaves were buried after a fire that erupted from an oil lamp turning over into a bed of straw killing many waiting to be freed by Mr. Hannah to Canada on the Underground Railroad.

Reports
Many witnesses claim to have personal experiences in the basement ranging from seeing apparitions of slaves, seeing shadows, hearing moans, feeling cold spots and seeing Mr. Hannah himself in several locations of the mansion including the upstairs and balcony.

Equipment
4 Sony IR static video cameras, 1 documentary mini DV IR, 1 tri-field meter, 1 digital EMF meter, 1 K2 EMF meter and 9 digital voice recorders.

Investigation
The investigation officially began at 7:11 pm on this special investigation as Tom Davis of WRTV channel 6 news would document this investigation for their Halloween report.   Investigators present were: Greg, Robert, Kenny, Elisa, Kelly, Joe and Ricky. We split into two teams.  Team one consisted of  Robert, Kenny, Elisa and Greg on documentary video.  The second team would consist of Ricky, Kelly, Joe and Greg on documentary video.  Also, during our tour before the investigation started, Kelly saw a woman's silhouette in "Grandma's bedroom".

Investigation Time Line
At 7:15 pm, as we were getting ready to split into teams, Greg noticed a video tape that he had placed on our equipment table was missing.  It was never found.  At 7:21 pm, we went up to the attic and began an EVP session.  At 7:29 pm, we noticed high EMFs in the attic's north side at the ceiling which was only about 7 feet high near flex ductwork. They were steady and consistent and we ruled it electronic.  There were also flies in the attic flying around.  At 7:31 pm , we went down to "Grandma's Bedroom" and conducted an EVP session.  At 7:35 pm, Kenny and Elisa heard a tapping sound.  Like a pecking sound on a window.  The floor made creaking sounds when we walked around.  At 7:37 pm, we went to the "Blue Room" and placed our K2 meter on the table that supposedly moves on its own.  Asking questions and listening for sounds, at 7:39 pm, Elisa experiences dizziness.  She leaves the room at 7:40 pm to see if it goes away but it continued. Kenny decided to set in the same chair Elisa was setting in to see if he could provoke dizziness but does not.  At 7:42 pm, Kenny felt something touch his right thigh as he was setting in the chair in the corner of the "Blue Room". Thinking it might be a child's spirit, the team asked questions hoping to provoke any spirits of small children that may have been present in the room but nothing was recorded.  At 7:47 pm, we decided to leave the "Blue Room" and we went to the "Bride's Room" across the hallway.  It felt a little cooler in that room so Elisa went down to get the thermometer and while in the dinning room, she heard a soft sound like, "don't".  The room's temperature was 66 and dropping to 65.4 within seconds.  At 7:51 pm, Robert radioed team 2 to meet us at the door for team rotation. Before we left the "Bride's Room", Robert found a safety pin on the table and placed it in an area of the table cloth to see if it would move during the course of the investigation. At 7:53 pm, team 2 entered the house and took over the investigation.  At 7:56 pm, team 2 entered the room known as "Grandma's Room".  They started an EVP session. Joe sat down on the bed and began asking questions; "Can you make your presence known?", "We're not hear to hurt you",  "Do you not like us being here?", "We're just hear to try and communicate with you" and "If there's anyone here, can you make a noise?".  At 8:05 pm, there was a squeaking noise that was described as being outside the house.  At 8:07 pm, the temperature was 62.4 in "Grandma's Room".  At 8:09 pm, they were provoking to remove Joe from the bed.  At  8:10 pm, Joe felt something on the back of his neck.  At 8:11 pm, Kelly checked his neck and found a welt and scratch on his neck that included a blood mark. It was a raised area.  After discussing the welt and asking a few more questions, at 8:13 pm, they decided to move to the basement where they conducted an EVP session.  At 8:19 pm, Kelly saw a light or green glow which the others also saw down near the floor.  They discovered it was a light coming through the window.  At 8:20 pm,  an EVP was recorded in the dinning area.  They continued their EVP session until 8:32 pm when team 1 entered the house. Robert needed to check his tape in the basement while the rest of us decided to return to "Grandma's Room" for a final EVP session.  However, nothing was recorded on our voice recorders or cameras.  At 9:11 pm, the investigation was called and teardown began.

Findings
This was a short investigation and we really didn't expect much for only being there 2 hours.  But some members did have some personal experiences.  Joe had a welt form on the back of his neck during an EVP session in one of the upstairs bedrooms.  Kelly saw the upper body of a woman floating in the same bedroom.  And an EVP was recorded in the dinning area. We think this EVP says "Han-nah" in a whisper. You decide.  With our evidence, personal experiences and along with other eyewitness accounts, this historic mansion does have paranormal activity and warrants further investigation.

This is the WRTV 6 News report on this investigation
