#14) Visitor in the Night

I am passing on this story of some activity my grandmother experienced in Edinburgh, Indiana in the late 50's to early 60's.  My grandmother has never been a person to exaggerate, or lie for that matter, and from her expressions and actions when telling these stories you can tell she really experienced it.  As a young girl, she lived with her older sister in Edinburgh.  The house was off of county road 252, and is now a parking lot for a local factory.  She would come home from school at the same time everyday, and had a routine of putting her books and things in her room.  Her older sister would hear her come in and call out her name. One day, she heard the front door shutting, and my grandmother's bedroom door shutting as normal.  Much to her surprise, it was almost 2 hours before her time to come home from school.  She looked throughout the house and nothing.  This was ongoing for two more days until she said something to my grandmother.  At this time, my grandmother explained to her that her room had been unusually cold when she slept there at night, making her very uncomfortable.  Jack, my grandmother's brother-in-law, worked during the night, and drank in taverns during the day.  He was never home to witness any of this.  One day he decided to stay home from the tavern, and also heard the doors shut.  He called out, "Mary's home", to his wife.  She turned to him and said, "No shes not, it's been doing this for a few days now"!  Later that night, Jack went to work. My grandmothers middle sister had come to stay that night, she was pregnant. They all talked of what had been happening, and decided to sleep in the same bed in the upstairs hall.  While trying to sleep, they felt a cold presence enter the room. Holding one another and shaking, they heard steps coming up the stairs slowly, and getting louder.  The steps got louder, then stopped.  To this day my grandmother and her sister (one has passed) say they pulled the covers down a little only to see the glowing image of a man standing at the foot of the bed.  At this point, they began to panic and climbed out of the bed, all running toward the door.  The figure dissapeared once they started moving around, my grandmother explained.  They made it down the stairs.  My grandmother's middle sister claimed she left her purse in my grandmother's bedroom.  My grandmother ran into grab it.  Upon entering the room, she said it litterally felt like a "deep freeze". Once she had it, they made it to the front door. They opened it, and upon exiting, the door would not close, as if something were pulling on it.  The three ladies pulled on the door and it would not budge.  Finally they said "Forget it", and left the door open and ran to the car.  My grandmother's sister never went back to that house, except only to move her things.  They never stayed another night in it again.  I can only wish that this house was still standing, because of my interest in the paranormal.
